Chemical Name: Polyvinyl Alcohol(PVA)

Molecular Formula: -[CH2CH(OH)]n

Physical properties:

Appearance is white flake, granular or powdery solid (low alkali alcoholysis process) or white flocculent solid (high alkali alcoholysis process). Specific gravity: 1.19-1.31 g/cm3, flake PVA filling specific gravity: 0.42-0.52 g/cm3, flocculent filling specific gravity: 0.20-0.27 g/cm3

Chemical properties:

Water-soluble: PVA molecules are easily soluble in water because they contain a large number of hydroxyl groups. Its solubility increases with the increase of water temperature, only expands in cold water (low alcoholysis products can slowly dissolve in normal temperature water), and can be completely dissolved in hot water. Its aqueous solution has good film-forming and cohesive properties. 

Thermal stability: The product softens when heated, does not change significantly below 40℃, 160℃ for a long time heating will gradually color, decomposition occurs above 220℃, resulting in water, acetic acid, acetaldehyde and butenal. 

Chemical resistance: The product is hardly affected by weak acid, weak base or organic solvent, and has high oil resistance. 

Storage stability: Good product stability, long-term storage in the natural dry state does not mold, does not deteriorate, does not absorb moisture. 

PVA is a polymer with secondary hydroxyl groups. The secondary hydroxyl group in PVA molecular formula has high reactivity, and can carry out typical chemical reactions similar to low molecular alcohol, such as esterification, etherification, acetalization, etc., and also react with many inorganic compounds and organic compounds. Non-toxic to humans and animals, naturally degradable, known as green products.
